Project Description
Eckman worked closely with the College to finalize the details of their new fitness center. The new facility has two stories and a mezzanine, and was planned to serve the entire student population. It is housed in an addition on the south side of the Carr Recreation Center.
Expanses of glass on the segmented-radius outer wall provide abundant natural lighting and views of campus; windows added between the addition and the existing gym visually connect the spaces and introduce natural light into the rest of the building. A fixed solar shade, and high-quality, tinted solar-shading glass reduce glare, UV light, and excessive heat.
Eckman scheduled construction activities around athletic programs, and carefully coordinated all work on this constrained site in the center of a busy campus.
