Project Description

Size: 178,000 sf Additions/Renovations

Delivery: Construction Management Services

Owner: SAU #43, Newport School District

Architect: Marinace Architects

Eckman Construction successfully oversaw a multi-phase renovation project for the Newport School District, encompassing three schools: Richards Elementary, Towle School, and Newport Middle/High School.

The most significant transformation occurred at Richards Elementary School, an 1896 building.

The project included a comprehensive renovation of the existing structure and the addition of a 30,000-square-foot, two-story wing. This addition housed 12 classrooms, a multi-purpose room with a stage, a new boiler system, an elevator, and an expanded, two-level cafeteria. The project also restored the original front entrance, previously bricked over, and created a secure main entrance adjacent to the new school office.

Towle School, serving grades four and five, received essential upgrades, including a new fire sprinkler system, improved water service, and fire alarm enhancements.

At Newport Middle/High School, renovations focused on enhancing existing spaces. These included upgrades to ceilings, lighting, and locker systems, along with the installation of a new fire sprinkler system and alarm system. Existing classrooms and offices were repurposed to create a dedicated music and art suite and a new chemistry laboratory.

This comprehensive renovation project encompassed approximately 178,000 square feet of construction and was delivered under Eckman’s construction management services. Marinace Architects served as the project architects for the SAU #43 school district.
