Size: 105,000 sf New

Delivery: Construction Management Services

Owner: SAU #70, Dresden School District

Architect: Banwell Architects

Eckman Construction provided Construction Management Services for the relocation and construction of the new Richmond Middle School. This 188,000 square foot facility, designed by Banwell Architects, replaced the existing middle school, previously located in a shared facility with Hanover High School. The new school boasts 25 classrooms, 5 science labs, 14 specialty classrooms, a media center, a 275-seat auditorium, a gymnasium with locker rooms and 625-seat bleachers, two outdoor playing fields, and a cafeteria with a full commercial kitchen.

The building utilizes a combination of block bearing and structural steel with a steel stud curtain wall exterior featuring spray-on urethane insulation and metal panel/masonry cladding. The school incorporates energy-efficient systems, including a wood-chip fired boiler for heating and fiberglass window frames. A unique feature of the project is the incorporation of a planned, random brook that meanders through existing trees, addressing drainage needs in a sensitive environmental area while enhancing the natural setting.
